Sadness is Not a Christian Attitude? Say What? – CC020

In today’s episode of Cassidy Comments I offer my response to the idea that “sadness is not a Christian attitude” as mentioned in an article from the website Vatican News quoting Pope Francis.

What is the Pope saying?  Is he implying that Christians cannot/should not be sad?  Is that even possible?

I dig a little deeper and check out some scriptural references and uncover the relationship between sadness, joy and what Jesus and the Pope have to say about it.

I invite you to check out my blog at janetcassidy.blogspot.com and I hope you will subscribe to it, as well as to my podcasts which are always found at janetcassidy.blubrry.com

If you would like to contact me to arrange to have me speak to your group or organization, please email me at: johnseven38@yahoo.com

I have put a link to the article from Vatican News on my blog as well.

Have a blessed day in God’s Word!

Change–it’s pretty messy! CC019

Have you ever been faced with a change that was hard for you to accept?  Would you agree that sometimes change can be pretty messy?

In today’s episode of Cassidy Comments I recall a change the Catholic Church made in regards to standing after receiving Holy Communion and then I move into the current difficulty we have today as a civil body struggling to become unified.

I highlight the most important thing we can do if we really want to achieve unity.

I have included on my blog at janetcassidy.blogspot.com an insightful TED talk that I think you may find very interesting.  Be sure to check it out!

Squire Bill’s Inspiration, CC 018

In today’s episode of Cassidy Comments I hope you will find a little fun history and maybe some inspiration.  Listen in as I talk about a favorite quote of mine and the surprising history I learned about it.

I discovered after all these years, the quote is not only inaccurate, but has been popularly attributed to the wrong person!  Who knew that President Roosevelt’s friendship with a Virginian named Squire Bill Widener would perpetuate such a wonderful quote?

If you are looking for a little inspiration for yourself, maybe you, too, will be inspired by Squire Bill.  Since I am a bit of a quote junkie, if you would like to follow me on Twitter @livingwaterjn7, you can find some of my other favorite quotes.  Or, if you have some of your own, I would love for you to share them on my blog at janetcassidy.blogspot.com.

As always, I encourage you to subscribe!

Beyond the Walls, CC016

Join me for this thought-provoking reflection on what it means to work within a church environment versus how we serve God in ordinary ways in our daily life.  I talk about a musician I met who works with youth in a “pop-up” church, consider what Jesus had to say about acting from a rock solid foundation, and finally, I offer the words of St. Theresa of Avila as evidence that disciples are needed today to do the work of Christ.

Don’t forget to join me at janetcassidy.blogspot.com and share this with a friend!  If you would like to have me speak at your church or with your group, contact me at johnseven38@yahoo.com.

The Executive’s Decision, CC015

What if we started thinking like the executive of a Fortune 500 company who compared the effort he put into his secular job to the effort he put into his faith?

This executive decided he would be fired from his job if he approached it the same way he approached his responsibilities as a disciple.

This is good food for thought.  Pause with me a moment on this edition of Cassidy Comments and see if you are giving like the widow whose contribution Jesus praised, or if you would be fired from your job as a disciple!!

Do I Belong? CC014

Have you ever run into a pushy person, on fire with the Lord, who insists that you have to take up their devotional practice?  You HAVE to do the Divine Mercy Prayer!  You HAVE to pray the rosary twice a day!  You HAVE to read scripture!

What they don’t realize is that instead of attracting you to the Lord, or showing you a meaningful way to pray, they make you want to run for the hills!

Join me today for a balanced perspective and see if you can answer my question about a young adult’s reason for feeling like she didn’t belong.  In this episode of Cassidy Comments I will give you a gentle way to respond to that person who just doesn’t know how to “let it go.”

Walking in History – CC012

As we were walking through an antique sale, I was intrigued by so many items that opened the door to our history.  Join me in a reflection that leads to a discussion about our elderly, and those “hidden” gems who carry our past with them. Ever feel like your prayers aren’t working? If you find yourself thinking “I don’t know why I bother praying,” or, “Is anybody really listening?” than this podcast is for YOU!  Listen in as I take up this topic which includes some insight from Pope Benedict XVI on what it does for us when we call out to God in those times of distress.
